The Problem - the old trail went straight down a fall line. It had become badly eroded and tree roots were exposed.

The Solution - keep the trail, but armor the surface. With an abundance of pines in the area a Log Road was built to protect the slope. Chainsaws were used to cut cross patterns in the logs for better traction. Other logs were sunk into the hillside to keep everything in place. Finally, soil was packed firmly in between the logs. You still get a fun downhill, but this time it will last for years and years.
